Chi-Jeng Kuo is a professor in the Department of Architecture at Tunghai University in Taiwan. He earned his Ph.D. from the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning at National Taiwan University, specializing in urban history with a focus on the cultural and political-economic aspects of spaces. Kuo's research on modern Shanghai, particularly during the colonial period (1843-1943), has spanned over twelve years.With a professional background in architecture design, buildingconstruction, architectural physics, urban planning, and real estate development, Kuo has developed a distinct perspective on the cultural and economic aspects of Shanghai's urban spaces, leading to numerouspublications in the field.In 2006-2007, he received a Fulbright grant for a ten-month sabbatical at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) at Columbia University. His research on Shanghai has since extended from the colonial period to the present.Since August 2013, Kuo has served as Dean of General Affairs at Tunghai University, where he initiated renovation projects for buildings over fifty years old. A grant from the Getty Foundation allowed him to conduct a thorough investigation and research for the conservation of Luce Chapel.
