Due to global warming and abnormal climate patterns, the frequency and severity of natural disasters are steadily increasing. In response, the role of architects and urban planners is becoming more critical. This forum aims to explore how architects can contribute in times of disaster. Pritzker Prize-winning architect Riken Yamamoto has been consistently working on architecture for local communities and reflecting on the relationship between community and architecture, particularly after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Currently, he is engaged in community relief efforts in Venezuela. After Estudio is a group of young Spanish architects based in Valencia, Spain. In 2024, more than 230 people died due to a major flood in Valencia. As members of the Valencian College of Architects, they participated in damage assessment activities for affected buildings. Eun Sun Park of Listen to the City holds a Ph.D. in Urban Engineering and specializes in disaster
management. She will present on the importance of community, vulnerable populations in disasters, and temporary housing architecture, focusing on case studies from Korea, Spain, and Japan.
